  • SOME POOLS HAVE A DEDICATED FEATURE PUMP/S THESE RUN AS NEEDED (CLEAN PUMP/S BASKET)
  • GET YOUR CHEMICALS PROFESSIONALLY TESTED EVERY 3 MONTHS
  • CLEAN TILE 2 TO 3 TIMES A YEAR TO PREVENT SCALE BUILDUP
  • MAINTAIN YOUR POOL ALL YEAR LONG (YOUR PLASTER WILL LAST LONGER)
  • CHANGE FILTER SAND EVERY 3 TO 5 YEARS

Basic Swimming pool Testing

There are 3 tests that should be done to your swimming pool on a weekly basis. It is good practice to have your pool chemicals professionally checked 2 -3 Times per swimming season. Keep in mind that we are in South Louisiana so our recommended chlorine levels will be higher than other areas due to the extreme heat and humidity.

  1. CHLORINE LEVEL SHOULD BE 3.0 TO 3.5 PPM IN SUMMER AND AS LOW AS 2.0 PPM IN WINTER
  2. PH LEVEL SHOULD BE 7.4 TO 7.6 PPM
  3. TOTAL ALKALINITY LEVEL SHOULD BE 80 TO 120 PPM

Other test that can be done by the homeowner (additional test kits needed).

  • STABILIZER (CYANURIC ACID) 70-80
  • CALCIUM HARDNESS 250 -300
  • SALT LEVEL ( IF YOU HAVE A CHLORINE GENERATOR ) 2700-3200

There are plenty of problem solving chemicals on the market. Not all are recommended and you should always check the use with your swimming pool type. These are commonly used problem solving chemicals.

  • ALGECIDE 60 – FOR THE CONTROL OF ALGAE
  • METAL OUT - FOR STAINS, AND WELL WATER TREATMENT
  • BLACK ALGECIDE – FOR BLACK ALGAE
  • YELLOW OUT – FOR MUSTARD ALGAE
  • PH INCREASER – FOR RAISING PH
  • MURIATIC ACID – FOR LOWERING PH (USE WITH CARE) NEVER USE MORE THAN ONE HALF GALLON IN 24 HOURS
  • ALKALINITY UP – FOR RAISING ALKALINITY

Please follow the directions carefully with all chemicals. Maintaining a chemically balanced swimming pool will extend the life of your plaster and equipment.
